7th Annual Dewey Arts and Fun Festival and Lion’s Club Community Day

7th Annual Dewey Arts and Fun Festival and Lion’s Club Community Day

On Saturday, May 12th, from 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM on Dagsworthy Street, Bayside, The Dewey Business Partnership in conjunction with the Lion’s Club and the Dewey Artist Collaboration are excited to roll out the biggest Dewey Arts and Fun Festival since its incarnation seven years ago. Originally branded as The Dewey Arts Fest, the event is family-focused, celebrates local artistry, and is the perfect place to shop locally for Mother’s Day!

Melissa Clink, from the Lion’s Club, founded in 1951, talks about the evolution and collaboration of the festival. “A few years ago, it was decided to have our Community Day coincide with The Art Fest and bring more people to both events. Our side concentrates on games, interactive displays and crafts geared toward fun and education for children.” The Lion’s Club will be featuring the artwork of local students from Rehoboth Elementary, with a theme of Latin American art this year.

The Dewey Artist Collaboration (DAC) will have a large tent featuring 20+ artists that fall under their collaborative. Pop in and view the amazing art and get interactive with two projects perfect for Mother’s Day (for both doggie moms and human moms!) They will also have a Mother’s Day themed “Kissing Booth,” by Tara Lausch Photography, where you can get your pictures taken and leave with a 5 by 7 inch photo—ready to go into a frame! This package is available for $25, but participants will also be able to purchase them separately.

This year is also going to the dogs with “Picasso’s Pet Palette.” There will be pet art vendors, pet photography, and even pet adoptions by the Brandywine Valley SPCA. There will be a raffle by Get Your Wag On Pet Services for in-home pet sitting, also at the DAC tent. All dogs must be leashed for the event.

And, of course, no day in Dewey would be complete without live music! Live music includes local Chris Steele (in the DAC tent) from 11AM-4PM and Joe Stolio of Joe Bachman and the Party, from 11:30AM – 2:00PM.

For Kelly Ranieri, who works with the Dewey Business Partnership, bringing these elements together to form a well-rounded day for the whole family is all part of the fun. “This is a way to come out and support local artists, enjoy great food trucks from local vendors, have fun with your kids, your dogs—and especially to shop locally for Mother’s Day!”

Over 60 artists will be showcasing and selling their work featuring sea glass, jewelry, photography, ceramics, textiles, accessories, wood, paintings, and more. Ranieri says it’s the perfect place to shop for your beach house, since everything has a bent toward the beach theme. But it’s also a great way to get out and enjoy a day in your favorite small beach town, Dewey Beach!
